Too tired to blog, so I will ramble.

So, I have a question for all of my atheist friends. If there is no God, or higher force, what has instilled in us the need for love and acceptance? If you approach this thought from a scientific perspective I believe you will find it to be quite contrary to typical evolutionary beliefs. In general species move through adaptations in order to keep useful mutations, “only the strongest survives”. Water snakes mimic copperhead coloring to keep predators at bay, frogs in the north have adapted a chemical in their blood that lowers their freezing point to eliminate crystallization of their blood (water) in the cold of winter. These are useful adaptations; they will help the animal to keep their genes in the gene pool, the general idea that drives evolutionary theory. This idea of getting your genes to the next generation combined with competition of mating can be easily used to define our complex mating rituals (dating), but it does not carry an innate need for love and acceptance. It does not explain why a man does not get a good night’s sleep when his wife is gone. At this point one could make the inference that the man does not sleep because his routine, or habits, has/have been disturbed. It is like taking a dog to a strange place an expecting it to behave the same as it does at home. This would be a plausible inference if the decrease in sleep lasted for a short time. But, as a widow/widower will attest, this is not always the case. This reduction in sleep can last the entire life of the person that feels alone. It is at this point that one must discount the inference on two main basis: first, it is only a inference and can not be directly tested; second, it does not hold true in all situations making it no longer a valid argument.

The idea of God and love can become jumbled and sticky. Just as you cannot use scientific reasoning to accurately test the existence of God, you cannot use it to test the absence of God. On a side note, most people Einstein to be one of the greatest minds of the modern era. Did you know that many of his thoughts have yet to be supported by data? Let us take a moment to contemplate another example; the mere mention of God and evolution stirs emotions in people that blur the truth. Some will not listen to one side, some will not listen to the other. So, let us leave this idea for a moment and move to the subject of quantum physics. Ok, if you are still with me I applaud your resolve☺ At this time quantum physics has become a hotbed of discovery. It is quite honesty one of the most exciting, and one of the strangest, fields in science. Why? What about these miniscule interactions, which make no sense to most of us, has turned the collective heads of the scientific community? It is about knowledge and discovery. About explanation. Most of what is being study in quantum physics relates to the origin of everything including thoughts, emotions, even ourselves. Where does this need come from? What advantage does our understanding of our past give us? How will it help us get our genes to the next generation? I, at times, believe is has nothing to do with a continued evolution. Instead, I propose it is about finding our place, our importance in this universe. This leads us right to the need for acceptance and love. Our need for feeling of importance or belonging in this universe can be attributed to nothing if there is no belief in God or a higher force. Without this belief there is no reason for us to want to find our place nor is there a reason to find importance in this universe. There would be nothing to establish a place, nor would there be anything to be important for.

I know that there are no new thoughts here and I do not purport this to be anything but the ramblings of a fool. But, I hope it makes you take one second (minus the time it took you to read this) of your day to think about something you have already decided. To assure yourself that you have a reason for your reasons.

I do not purport to be an atheist (maybe an agnostic) but there are plenty of other examples of nurturing and love in the biological world. The elephant herd caring for their young as a group and even morning their dead. How about whole colonies of ants that work together for a common goal.

The animal world does not often see a member of a species killing one of its own. But we, god-believing humans do it all the time? How does that fit in to your comments?

I think the idea of God is independent from love. The intricacies and extent of love is what makes us human, not what makes us Christian, Jew, Muslim or Atheist. Being advanced enough to follow a self-regulated (or at least societal regulated) moral code.

Now you got me rambling.
